There are different types of music videos that work best for different artists and different types of music. These are: performance, narrative and concept.

Performance

Performance based music videos feature a solo artist or a band performing to the camera. The aim is to focus on the artists and convey them in a particular way to the viewing audience. This category includes the recording of live performance, with the aim of demonstrating an artistic talent that is not captured in the recording, such as capturing the energy and enthusiasm of live fans.

E.g. Arctic Monkeys: 'I bet you look good on the dance floor'

I would like my music video to be slightly performance based (maybe have two or three scenes of people performing) in order to make my audience focus on the song and not only the visuals

Conceptual

This type of music video, rather than featuring the band performing the song, is presented as a visual narrative. It presents an idea or concept and could be abstract as they try to convey a message being metaphorical

E.g. Sia , 'Elastic Heart'

I believe concept videos are original and unique. I could maybe implement some concept factors in my music video but not as a whole

Narrative

A narrative music video tells a story, logically or sequentially through a chain of events that are put together to run parallel to each other.

E.g. Oasis, 'Stand By Me'

My music video will mostly rely on narrative. It will probably follow a story-line in order for the audience to stay engaged
